How Audiovisual Entertainment has Changed Over the Decades

The entertainment sector is easily one of the biggest in the world today. Everyone enjoys one form of entertainment or the other. Hence, when a person is not playing games, he is watching a movie, listening to music, watching sports or being directly involved in a sport. When it comes to audiovisual entertainment, a lot has changed since the invention of the first camera in 1685. Even though this camera was only for taking pictures, it subsequently led to the invention of the first video camera at the start of the 1900s.

With the invention of the video camera, it became possible to capture motion pictures and sounds at the same time, hence people could watch content that has been recorded. The need for dedicated devices to watch the content recorded by video cameras led to the creation of the first electronic television on 7 September 1927. During this period, the captured content was majorly black and white, hence, the television also showed only black and white videos. The first television was sold in 1946.

With the increasing popularity of televisions, the first colour television was subsequently sold on 25 March 1954. During this period, the quality of the pictures was very poor but it was just a start and it was good enough for those who used them. However, with the successful invention and sales of the first colour television, the only way was forward. More research was put in by companies to create more powerful video cameras that could capture sound very clearly and high-quality pictures. The televisions on which they were to be played were also improved to be able to display high-quality pictures.

It is with the invention of cameras, televisions and powerful computers that audiovisual entertainment has reached the height it has achieved today. With televisions capable of displaying very high resolutions of pictures and computers being able to generate pictures using CGI technology, games and cartoons became very common as well. For instance, the first Nintendo video game was released on 9 July 1981. This is considering that Nintendo as a game company has been around since the 1700s, creating various types of card and board based games. However, they were one of the first to also see the potential in video games and hence was one of the first to create a game console on 15 July 1983. The PlayStation released its first console on 3 December 1994 while the Xbox released its first console on 15 November 2001. The 3 companies are currently the top game console sellers in the world.

The computer has also been responsible for a major development in audiovisual entertainment today. Apart from their ability to play audios, videos and games, they are also directly responsible for the creation. There are several cartoon movies and virtually all video games today that are installed on consoles are made with computer programming languages and on computer.
